# Aider

> Install Aider and use Floodgate through its OpenAI-compatible endpoint.

Aider pairs seamlessly with Floodgate via its OpenAI-compatible API endpoint.

## 1. Install Aider

```bash theme={null}
python -m pip install aider-install
aider-install
```

## 2. Configure the endpoint and API key

<CodeGroup>
  ```bash macOS, Linux, or WSL theme={null}
  export OPENAI_API_BASE="https://api.floodgate.dev/v1"
  export OPENAI_API_KEY="YOUR_API_KEY"
  ```

  ```powershell Windows PowerShell theme={null}
  $env:OPENAI_API_BASE = "https://api.floodgate.dev/v1"
  $env:OPENAI_API_KEY = "YOUR_API_KEY"
  ```
</CodeGroup>

## 3. Start Aider

Change to your git repository and prefix the Floodgate model ID with `openai/`:

```bash theme={null}
cd /path/to/your/project
aider --model openai/gpt-6-sol
```

### Other Frontier Models

Switch models depending on task requirements:

```bash theme={null}
# Anthropic's flagship model
aider --model openai/claude-opus-5-5
# Ultra-fast, cost-efficient reasoning
aider --model openai/deepseek-v4.1-flash
aider --model openai/gpt-6-luna
# Deep mathematical & algorithmic reasoning
aider --model openai/grok-4.7
```

<Note>
  Aider may display a notice for model IDs not pre-configured in its internal database. This notice is informational; as long as the base URL, key, and model ID are specified correctly, Floodgate handles execution and streaming normally.
